March Newsletter
Better Together Transportation continues to provide rides in Buncombe County that keep people connected to the ones they love.
This month, we helped a 100-year-old woman, Henrietta, celebrate her 100th birthday with family. We helped a man living in a nursing home attend his brother’s funeral. We also continue each month to bring a wife to visit her husband and spend time with him in a nursing home.
These are the rides at the heart of our work.
Featured Story
We brought Geraldine from her nursing home so she could attend dinner with her found family and friends.
Pictured here is Geraldine singing karaoke with friends after dinner.
Her friends told us, “We were all discussing how moved we were by what you made possible. Thank you so much!”
As we dropped her off, Geraldine smiled and said, “You know why a hug is better than a kiss? There’s a heart on each side.”
New on Our Website: Advocacy and Education
We launched a new Advocacy and Education section on our website to house our public talks, advocacy work, and upcoming articles on transportation access.
Transit rights are bigger than one man in a van. Lasting change requires many people pushing for a more connected society, because transit inequality is not unique to Buncombe County. It is a national problem.
Featured Public Comment: Protecting Transit Access in Asheville
We address the human cost of a ridership-first transit redesign and show how reduced coverage would leave older adults, disabled residents, and low-income riders without service.
